Nalonchem (Quimica del Nalon) is sponsoring the Science Week organized by the newspaper La Nueva España, which will take place from April 13 to 17, 2026.
The “Margarita Salas” Science Week combines scientific rigor, current events, and a commitment to public outreach over five consecutive days at the La Nueva España Press Club and the Gijón Aquarium.
Through this event, the public can gain insight into some of the major challenges of the present and the future, with experts who translate complex concepts into accessible ideas—a reason that led Química del Nalón to sponsor the event alongside other entities such as the Oviedo City Council, the City Council of Gijón, the Fernández-Vega Ophthalmological Institute, Veolia, Bayer, Alfonso X el Sabio University, Ieducae, Fertiberia, and the collaboration of the Idonial Technology Center.
The program began with Pablo Rodríguez, Director of Innovation at Google, who led a session on “Artificial Intelligence and Science.” The following day, Corsino Rey Galán, Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Oviedo and Director of the Clinical Department of Childhood and Adolescence at the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA), spoke on the topic “What You Don’t See in a Pediatric ICU: Research for Survival.”
Patricia López Vicente, director general of the Idonial Technology Center, also participated to discuss industrial innovation in a session titled “The Era of ‘Thinking’ Materials,” referring to materials that respond to stimuli or even ‘remember’ previous states. Gloria Rodríguez Donoso, professor of Materials Science and Engineering, focused her presentation on sustainability with the talk “Concentrated solar energy for processing materials: toward a sustainable industry.”
Science Week, sponsored by Química del Nalón, concludes at the Gijón Aquarium with ophthalmologist Luis Fernández-Vega Cueto-Felgueroso, a specialist at the Fernández -Vega Institute and associate professor at the University of Oviedo, with a presentation titled “Science that illuminates: curiosities and the future of eye health,” on the latest advances in surgery and visual therapies.
Química del Nalón collaborates with Science Week as a company committed to circular chemistry; its passion is to grow by adapting its traditional activities and developing new businesses, guided by a three-pronged strategy: digital transformation, organic growth, and diversification and sustainability.
