Nalonchem presents its international logistics experience at a management and port forum

Nalonchem (Quimica del Nalon) presented its international logistics experience at the 4th Logistics and Operations Forum, organized by the Association for Management Progress (APD), held at the Port Authority of Gijón, to discuss current and future challenges.

Patricia Robledo, head of Logistics at Nalonchem, took part in one of the forum’s panels, which presented experiences on: smart logistics to adapt to the new world; the reconfiguration of logistics chains in a globally competitive environment; and innovation in operations, technology, and people.

Nalonchem is a company that sells 60% of its products to more than 30 countries and sources its supplies from different international markets. It has three logistics centers (Avilés, Poland, and Romania) and two ships in its own fleet.

Nalonchem´s coal chemical business has a production capacity of 260,000 tons of tar per year, making it the largest tar distiller in southern Europe and one of the leading international producers of pitch and naphthalene.

Our commitment to the circular economy began in 1943 with the distillation of tar into products with higher added value. Using a by-product of steelmaking as raw material, we produce key products for other sectors, such as aluminum, steel, carbon black, and fine chemical products, avoiding a negative environmental impact.

Nalonchem is also the leading producer of coke in Spain and one of the main producers in Europe, with an annual capacity of 130,000 tons. We develop our high-performance foundry coke activity from high-quality coking coal at high temperatures, recovering some by-products. We produce high-specification coke with high carbon content, low ash content, high calorific value, high mechanical strength, and uniform particle size for different sectors and applications.

d to circular chemistry, and its passion is growth, adapting its traditional activities and developing new businesses through a three-pronged strategy: digital transformation, organic growth, and diversification and sustainability.

Nalonchem, one of the industrial companies with a long-standing presence in the Trubia Valley, operates an innovative facility designed to meet the challenges of a global and highly competitive market, with an annual production capacity of 300,000 metric tons of tar distillation.

The Trubia plant operates its own tar distillation processes for the manufacture of high-performance products, making it one of the world’s leading producers of pitch—with low ash and volatile content—naphthalene—of varying degrees of purity, including the purest in the world—and oils, notably anthracene oil.

Nalonchem is an Asturian company that employs 230 people and works with 150 contractors at its plants in Trubia (Oviedo) and Ciaño (Langreo), as well as at its headquarters in Oviedo.

Between its two plants, the company exports more than 60% of its sales to the world’s leading companies in its sector, in over 30 countries, using its own fleet and logistics centers in San Juan de Nieva (Avilés), Szczecin (Poland), and Galati (Romania).
