Nalonchem (Quimica del Nalon) participated in the presentation of the AsturChem 2025 Award for the best scientific article of the year in the field of chemistry in Asturias
Researcher Jorge González-Rodríguez, from the Department of Organic and Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Oviedo and currently pursuing a postdoctoral fellowship at the Vienna University of Technology (Austria), has won the AsturChem 2025 Award, presented this Wednesday by the Asturias Regional Section of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry, with sponsorship from Química del Nalón.
The winning article -published in the high-impact journal “Angewandte Chemie- aims to replace heavy metals with new organic or biological catalysts, which is part of the development of more sustainable chemistry, under the title “L-cysteine-catalyzed hydration of activated alkynes.”
The rector, Ignacio Villaverde, presided over the award ceremony, which was attended by the president of the Asturias Regional Section of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry, Félix Rodríguez; Emilio Sáncez Cortezon, representing Nalonchem; and the award coordinator, former rector Vicente Gotor Fernández.
The contest organizers have also awarded special mentions to 14 of the 57 articles accepted for the contest
The initiative is now in its fifth year, organized by the Asturian Branch of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry and sponsored by Nalonchem.
Nalonchem, is collaborating on this activity as part of its commitment to scientific research -particularly in chemistry- and to the work carried out by the University of Oviedo and the School of Chemistry in supporting scientific talent.
