The Asturchem 2024 Award, sponsored by Nalonchem

The researcher Miguel Gallegos, from the Theoretical and Computational Chemistry Group at the University of Oviedo received the AsturChem2024 Award, granted by the Asturian Territorial Section of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry, with the sponsorship of the company Nalonchem (Quimica del Nalon).

The work selected for the AstuChem2024 Award was presented by Dr Miguel Gallegos González, from the Theoretical and Computational Chemistry Group at the University of Oviedo.

The jury highlighted the multidisciplinary nature of the work, developed through collaboration with research groups from the IMDEA Materials Institute (Madrid) and the University of Luxembourg.

This research – published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature Communications– highlights the importance of artificial intelligence to obtain reliable information on chemical bonds. Thus, the computational code SchNet4AIM was developed, which allows highly coherent predictions to be made about the structural characteristics of various molecules, which could help in the preparation of drugs and materials of interest.
